Coverage of the 2017 edition

The 5th DIGITAL BANKING AND PAYMENTS SUMMIT is already over. The expanded event combined two previously autonomic conferences: DIGITAL BANKING FORUM and POLAND PAYMENTS SUMMIT. Traditionally, we met in a strategic company of representatives for leading banks and key players of the payments market. The synergy of digital banking and payments, together with a large group of presenting experts (47 professionals from Poland and other countries) attracted over 180 participants. We had plenty of opportunities for sharing experiences and best practices among practitioners, enthusiasts and visionaries keen on looking for the best applications for modern technologies in the area of financial services. Some of the numerous captivating topics and inspiring projects that make the Polish digital finance sector world leaders in innovations were:

  • Digital revolution, introducing digital thinking into the bank’s structure – is effective management of digital omnichannel enough?
  • Building a customer-friendly Bank – concentrating on customer satisfaction
  • Big data or Smart data and the potential of blockchain in finance – optimal technology usage
  • Banks and FinTechs – common interests or competition?
  • Strategic projects and investments in mobile payments
  • Using modern payment systems in e-commerce and m-commerce
  • Cybercrime – what is it and how to defend against it?
  • Latest authentication methods

Undoubtedly, challenges connected with introducing the PSD2 directive were among the hottest topics both in the conference room and in the networking area. On the one hand, it seems worth to seize the opportunities opened up by the new regulation, like easier access to data for risk analysis and new products, for instance. On the other hand, we also need to establish rules for cooperation to prevent data abuse and theft, in order to maintain high credibility of the whole sector. Pedro Conrade – the founder of the first mobile bank in Brazil that uses biometric face recognition authorisation systems – sparked avid interest among the participants, especially during networking sessions. Congenial atmosphere, lively discussions and the conviction that we are the Polish leaders of digital transformation marked the whole duration of the Forum.

Your opinions expressed in the surveys allowed us to distinguish 5 best presentations delivered this year. These were:

  1. User experience – optimal approach for building customer experience in all points of contact with the internal and external customer
Łukasz Kuc, Director of the Mobile and Internet Projects Department, PKO Bank Polski
  2. Digital currencies are not the same as cashless transactions
    Lech Wilczyński, President, inPay
  3. Evolution of payments in e-commerce – from obstacles in the process to competitive advantage
Piotr Sekulski, Payments and Checkout Development Manager, ALLEGRO GROUP
  4. The most valuable good of the future – information
Michał Krauze, BDM (Big Data and Data Driven Business Models), T-MOBILE POLAND
  5. Big data or Smart data – what insights can we gain from transaction and demographic data?
Łukasz Konwicki, Strategic Partnerships Manager, Retail Banking Department, mBank

Here I would like to heartily thank and congratulate all the Speakers on inspiring the auditorium with their experience and knowledge. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Participants for their trust and joining us in the Forum, and above all – for their openness and willingness to share their opinions and experiences.
